Dominik Kosztolanski

PIANO/SAXOPHONE TEACHER

Dominik is a Hungarian saxophonist and pianist born in Budapest in 1999. He started playing the guitar in elementary school but later switched to the saxophone. His love for jazz and improvised music developed around the age of 13 when he attended the "Lamantin Jazz Camp" in Szombathely, and when he first heard the music of his idols such as Mihály Dresch, John Coltrane, or Sonny Rollins.

During his high school years, Dominik studied under the guidance of János Avéd, one of Hungary's finest saxophone players. In 2016, he formed his first band under his own name, initially as a trio and later expanding to a quintet. They performed at the Belgrade Jazz Festival and various jazz clubs in Hungary.

Dominik's passion for producing and hip hop music led him to collaborate with a Hungarian-American rapper in a project called ORLANDO x Dom Beats. He has also been a sideman for various bands in Hungary, including the folk-jazz band Bettika Quintet, with whom they won the Hungarian Jazz Showcase. He has had the honor of occasionally playing in the band of renowned Hungarian drummer István Baló, who has recorded with artists like Chris Potter and Archie Sheep.

In 2022, Dominik joined the successful Hungarian hip-hop jazz band, Jazzbois, and has toured Europe multiple times with them. He is also a member of the popular Hungarian hip-hop collective called Wavy.

Since 2019, Dominik has been based in London, where he studied at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire, learning from musicians like Tom Challenger. He also spent an exchange year in Paris, studying at CNSMDP (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris).
