Talfan Jenkins

SAXOPHONE/FLUTE TEACHER

Talfan started playing the saxophone aged eight and by the age of 12 had passed his ABRSM Grade 8 classical exam with distinction. His interest then turned towards jazz and when he was 14, he received a special award for achieving the highest mark in the UK and Ireland in his Trinity Grade 8 Jazz exam.

He is six times winner of the Urdd National Eisteddfod woodwind competition and has won several other major trophies at festivals across south Wales. He began attending the Junior Conservatoire of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff when he was 15 and a year later began receiving extra tuition on the college’s degree course.

This year he graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with a First-Class degree in Jazz Saxophone. Throughout his time at Trinity, he has played an integral role in many performing bands, such as the Fletcher Henderson Project, Big Band and Jazz Orchestra.

He also takes a keen interest in teaching and has assisted with workshops and Jazz Bands in schools across London and is now beginning his journey as a Pelican Teacher. He is passionate about tailoring the support that he provides to each individual student, with respectful acceptance of individuality, ensuring all students experience fun and enjoyment as they learn.
